Series Rules

Overall Competition

Male and female skiers of all ages compete for the grand prize trips to ski in Iceland’s Fossavatn Ski Marathon. Overall winners are determined based upon an age-indexed system. With the age-indexed system, a 70-year old skier can win just as easily as a 22-year old. The age-index factors age into the equation so that a fast 70-year old can beat a 22 year-old – the fastest skier for his or her age wins. Points are awarded for each event based upon each skier’s age-indexed placement.  (Note that for the Twin Cities Championships and the Finlandia’s Pursuit competition, it is the combined pursuit time that is used to compute the age-indexed placement).  Overall male and female winners are determined by taking the five best events for each skier, with bonuses awarded for completing a sixth and seventh Series event.

Age Group Competition

Citizen skiers race for age-class recognition. Points are awarded for each Series event based upon a skier's age class placing.  Winners are determined by taking the best five events for each skier, with bonuses awarded for completing a sixth and seventh Series event.  Skiers placing in their age classes are recognized on the MiSSeries wooden trophy skis - displayed at all Series events.

Team Competition

Ski Teams from across the Region ski for the MiSSeries Team Championship. Teams are comprised of up to twelve skiers with the top three male and top three female age class scorers counting for each team. At the end of the Series, the Team with the most points wins. The top three teams for each year are recognized on the traveling MiSSeries “Team Category” wooden trophy skis – the champion team displays the skis until the following year. Teams must register by January 20, 2010 to be eligible. Register Now!
